Whether you are just starting out as an adult because you "always wanted to do that!" Or you played piano as a kid and are "sorry that you quit," or you're already quite advanced, and just want some outside help to become a better pianist, I can help you. To assist you in deciding if I'm the right piano instructor for you, here's a little about me that goes beyond my biography page....
When I was a little girl, I was fortunate to have a mom who played records for me of some of the most exciting classical music ever recorded... with a little Nat King Cole and Glenn Miller sprinkled in. So before I was even old enough to play the piano, I loved music, and I didn't know there was a difference between "classical" and "pop." It was just... music.
Mom showed me where the notes were on the piano and what they were called. After teaching me a few little tunes by rote, she set me up with piano lessons when I was about three and a half. Each day at the piano was an adventure, and I've never looked back. For me, the piano is my ticket to that big wonderful world of music. It is a means, not an end.
Since I began as piano instructor 41 years ago, I've felt that it's more than just teaching a skill. To be certain, the piano is the most advantageous instrument to learn how to play in order to open the door to the much larger world of music. Pursuing my three degrees in Piano Performance, I sought (and was required to - they were good schools) to become a well-rounded, whole musician.
I see no difference between the education that I received and how I would like to teach my piano students. No, I'm not going to force you to become a music major! I do not seek to intimidate; I am willing to customize your lessons for what you are most interested in. But I would like to offer basic understanding of music theory (how it's all put together) and music history (where it came from.) This is not a separate "course" of learning, it will be simply and subtly combined with teaching you piano skills.
I am passionate about music, and I want help you to catch that "bug," too!
